    Sweet spot Outstanding

Tasting note: There is plenty of wood/menthol influence to the notably more elegant nose that exhibits notes of plum, dark currant, orange pekoe tea and ample spice wisps. The rich and mouth coating flavors are finer and much more mineral-driven with a lovely sense of underlying tension adding lift to the beautifully persistent and complex finale where a touch of pit fruit bitterness appears. This is really lovely stuff and very Fuées in character.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2012 Vosne 1er Cru Petits Monts

2 Case 6 75cl £360
  • Tasting note: Here the wood is more moderate if by no means invisible as it sets off the overtly spicy and fresh nose that mixes both red and dark berry fruit aromas that display subtle menthol nuances. There is good punch to the supple and fleshy medium weight flavors that evidence plenty of minerality, all wrapped in a solidly persistent and well-layered finale. This should reward 10 to 12 years of cellar time.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2017 Chambolle 1er Cru Les Fuees

4 Case 6 75cl £385
  • The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has similar fruit intensity to the Les Baudes, although the oak is a little more vocal and therefore it does not quite have the same transparency. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity. This is quite strict and linear at the moment, showing good grip, although I discern more complexity and nuance on the Les Baudes.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2014 Morey 1er Cru Clos des Ormes

3 Case 6 75cl £185
  • Tasting note: There is enough wood spice present to remark upon though not so much as to mask the pretty and airy combination of various red berry aromas that are sprinkled with earth and floral nuances. I like the refinement of the round, supple and attractively textured middle weight flavors that are shaped by firm but well-integrated tannins on the solidly persistent and well-balanced finale. In a word, lovely.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2011 Gevrey Clos Saint Jacques

2 Case 6 75cl £475
  • Tasting note: A very pretty and expressive nose features notes of relatively high-toned red berry fruit allied with ample amounts of earth and sauvage characters. The lighter weight (but by no means dilute) middle weight flavors exude an intense minerality while displaying excellent delineation and punch on the balanced and impressively long finish that evidences just a hint of acid tang. This doesn't have the sheer density of say the 2009, 2010 or 2012 vintages but I very much like the flavor authority. Note that this benefitted enormously from several hours of air, indeed the wine was notably better the next day. In sum, this won't knock you out out with power but it's one classy and ultra-pure wine.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2011 Chambolle 1er Cru Les Baudes

9 Bottle 75cl £45
  • Tasting note: The nose is quite similar to that of the Fuées except that here there is a bit more oak influence. As is almost always the case, the mouth feel is less refined but more muscular with good power, volume and punch to the medium-bodied flavors that finish with excellent length. This should also amply reward up to a decade of cellar time.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2012 Morey 1er Cru Clos des Ormes

2 Case 6 75cl £195
  • Tasting note: Barnier indicated that this was not vinified by Jadot. There is a background note of menthol to the pretty and fresh red currant, earth and lightly spicy nose. There is a very supple and refined mouth feel to the satin-textured middle weight flavors that also possess a seductive mouth feel, all wrapped in a balanced finish. This should drink well young.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2012 Clos de la Roche -

2 Case 6 75cl £650
  • Tasting note: A pungently earthy nose also offers supporting aromas of gentle wood, spice and both red and dark fruit components. There is excellent richness and body to the large-scaled, mineral-inflected and openly powerful flavors that possess plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract before terminating in a striking long finish. This is a robust and very serious effort that possesses excellent cellaring potential and note well that it will need it as this is presently a bruiser. 93/100

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2011 Clos Saint Denis

3 Case 6 75cl £690
  • Tasting note: A tight and while not completely closed, it would be fair to describe as the nose of subtly layered and spicy dark currant aromas as highly restrained. By contrast, there is fine vibrancy and freshness to the silky and focused middle weight flavors that are shaped by fine grained if distinctly firm tannins, all wrapped in a wonderfully intense, mouth coating, impressively persistent and austere finish. This may be a Clos St. Denis of finesse but it doesn't lack for power or seriousness.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2011 Mazis Chambertin

1 Case 12 75cl £1,025
  • Tasting note: There is a bit more wood on the fresh and open sauvage-infused nose of both red and dark currant, earth and game hints. There is excellent volume to the very smooth and polished mid-palate of the broad-shouldered flavors that possess plenty of dry extract before culminating in a mineral-inflected, powerful and long finish. This moderately firm effort is supported by tannins that are ripe if borderline rustic. A classic Mazis.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2016 Chambolle 1er Cru Baudes

2 Case 6 75cl £350
  • 91-93 Burghound

Tasting note: A toasty nose features notes of menthol, spiced tea, red currant and a hint of cherry liqueur. The velvety, rich and seductively textured medium weight flavors possess the usual muscularity of a fine Les Baudes, all wrapped in a robust and even more structured finale that is long, balanced and very serious. I would not advise buying this high-quality effort without the express intention to allow it at least 6 to 8 years first.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2015 Vosne 1er Cru Suchots

1 Case 3 150cl £450
  • Tasting note: In contrast to the prior two wines this is aromatically much more reserved though aggressive swirling eventually liberates Asian spice box, tea, plum and violet scents. There is fine richness to the very suave and highly seductive medium-bodied flavors thanks to the abundant amounts of dry extract that impart a sappy texture to the lingering and solidly complex finale. This is both classy and stylish and built to reward medium plus-term aging.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2017 Mazis Chambertin

2 Case 6 75cl £975
  • Tasting note: This is actually quite aromatically similar to the Charmes but with more sauvage character. There is better mid-palate density as well as more obvious size and weight to the larger-scaled flavors that deliver better power and depth on the more structured finish.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2009 Echezeaux

1 Case 6 75cl £760
  • Tasting note: In stark contrast to the fresh, bright and expressive nose that I saw from cask, this has shut down hard and while persistent swirling and plenty air coaxes subtle spice notes as well as plum and red cherry to emerge, it's clear that this is going to require some bottle age before it blossoms. Otherwise there is fine concentration to the medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate on the delicious, complex, balanced and lingering finish that evidences very firm tannins that impart a notable austerity. A "buy and forget" wine built for the long-term.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2009 Griotte-Chambertin

4 Case 6 75cl £550
  • Tasting note: This is one of the few wines to display noticeable reduction and it's enough to knock down the nose though my score assumes that this will be corrected before it is bottled. There is good richness and vibrancy to the solidly well-concentrated flavors that possess plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract though the palate impression of the finish is still quite firm, all wrapped in a backend that delivers excellent persistence. This is a bit more rough and tumble than one typically sees from a classic Griotte though it does not display any overt rusticity

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2009 Bonnes Mares

2 Case 6 75cl £1,250
  • Here the notably ripe nose offers up liqueur-like dark berry fruit aromas that leads to big, rich and overtly bold and still compact large-scaled flavors that evidence obvious muscle and power before culminating in a very firm, intense, explosive and driving finish that delivers outstanding length. This is a formidable wine with dense and mouth coating tannins that will require at least 15 years to fully resolve and 20 would not surprise me. Note that unlike some of these '09s, this is very definitely not for early consumption as it is presently almost aggressively austere.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2017 Gevrey Clos Saint Jacques

2 Case 6 75cl £625£550
  • The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru clearly has the finest bouquet of seven wines that I tasted from the appellation by Jadot. It is very precise and focused, showing superb edginess and impressive terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This is quite linear in style, the fruit just a little muted toward the finish, but there is fine structure and detail on this more masculine Clos Saint-Jacques than anticipated.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2017 Bonnes Mares

3 Case 3 75cl £690
  • Tasting note: Moderate wood/menthol influences can be found on the airier aromas that are composed by the essence of softly spicy red currant, lavender and a lovely floral hint. The succulent yet powerful larger-scaled flavors possess evident muscle while exhibiting excellent persistence on the extremely firm, serious and bitter cherry pit-inflected finish. This is a big 2017 and the most structured wine in the range.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2017 Chambertin

4 Case 3 75cl £900
  • The 2017 Chambertin Grand Cru has more amplitude on the nose compared to the Clos-de-Bèze, offering layers of red berry fruit, briar, tobacco and light roasted chestnut aromas. This is beautifully defined. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannin on the entry. Like the Clos-de-Bèze, the fruit is a little backward at the moment, though there is substance here. It feels tightly coiled, but the structure and density on the finish suggest that it should develop in bottle. Maybe a little more persistence on the aftertaste would not have gone amiss, though that is the leitmotif of the vintage

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2011 Chambolle 1er Cru Les Amoureuses

2 Bottle 300cl £795
  • Tasting note: A spicy and notably floral nose of attractively layered aromas features notes of cassis, black cherry and plum aromas. There is a lovely mineral streak that runs the length of the refined medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent complexity, all wrapped in a balanced, lingering and lilting finish. I very much like the finesse and brilliant mouth feel as it's pure silk.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2014 Clos de Beze

1 Case 6 75cl £850
  • Tasting note: Discernible wood highlights the elegant, pure and highly spiced aromas of perfumed red pinot fruit that displays additional depth in the form of Gevrey style earth, floral and Asian-style tea notes. There is a softly exotic character to the mineral-driven big-bodied flavors that retain a fine sense of detail and intensity on the hugely long, complex and palate staining finish. This is a beautiful if firmly structured wine that is likely going to need between 12 and 15 years of cellar time to reveal its full, and considerable, potential.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2005 Bonnes Mares

1 Bottle 300cl £1,950
  • Tasting note: A notably ripe red and blue berry fruit nose is nuanced by chalk, minerals and abundant spice notes that continue onto the toasty, rich, full and massively powerful flavors that are suave and superbly concentrated, all wrapped in a very Bonnes Mares style finish as this is chewy but not rustic. An impressive wine where the finish doesn't seem to ever end.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2009 Clos de Beze

3 Case 6 75cl £1,250
  • A strikingly complex nose features an intense spiciness to the otherwise ripe, elegant and nuanced red berry liqueur aromas that are in keeping with the equally spicy and intense broad-shouldered and tautly muscular flavors, all wrapped in a mouth coating and very firm finish that delivers stunning persistence. I like the underlying sense of tension that adds vibrancy to the moderately austere and mineral-driven finale. This should be excellent in time.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2011 Musigny

2 Bottle 300cl £2,500£2,250
  • Tasting note: Background notes of wood are discernible but stop short of being invasive as they still allow the restrained, cool and pure dark berry fruit and black cherry aromas to shine. Interestingly this is less overtly spicy as the Amoureuses at present though there is a genuinely gorgeous inner mouth perfume to the suave, round and polished middle weight plus flavors that possess plenty of underlying muscle and power on the hugely long, balanced and impressively complex finish. While clearly firmly structured, this is somewhat more forward and approachable than is typical for this wine.

Red Burgundy Jadot, Louis 2013 Clos de Beze

2 Case 6 75cl £825
  • Bright, dark red. Cherry, stone, licorice and flowers on the nose. At once juicy and compellingly sweet, with powerful tangy minerality to the highly concentrated flavors of redcurrant, cherry and crushed stone. The slowly mounting, palate-saturating finish is a bit less sweet than that of the superb Chapelle owing to the wine's powerful minerality.Really resounds and lingers on the aftertaste.
