White Burgundy Jadot 2017 Beaune 1er Cru Greves Le Clos Blanc

5 Case 6 75cl £210
  • The 2017 Beaune Grèves le Clos Blanc 1er Cru has quite a terse, backward, almost Chablis-like bouquet that demands more coaxing from the glass than the Bressandes Blanc. The palate is quite steely and strict, but unlike the Bressandes, this leaves me wanting just a tad more weight on the back end, which feels just a little tight-lipped considering the vintage. This will no doubt offer more once in bottle.

Red Burgundy Jadot 2011 Vosne 1er Cru Beaux Monts

2 Case 6 75cl £325
  • Tasting note: A very spicy nose of primarily black cherry and cassis aromas also precedes very round, supple and forward flavors that possess the same attractively textured mouth feel to the medium-bodied flavors that also seem to lack a bit of energy on the nicely lingering finish. Again, it's possible that this is just fatigued and this is quite plausible given that Beaux Monts naturally has good acid levels.

    Sweet spot Outstanding

Tasting note: There is plenty of wood/menthol influence to the notably more elegant nose that exhibits notes of plum, dark currant, orange pekoe tea and ample spice wisps. The rich and mouth coating flavors are finer and much more mineral-driven with a lovely sense of underlying tension adding lift to the beautifully persistent and complex finale where a touch of pit fruit bitterness appears. This is really lovely stuff and very Fuées in character.

White Burgundy Jadot 2012 Puligny 1er Cru Folatieres

1 Case 12 75cl £580
  • Bright yellow. Slightly high-toned aromas of white peach, acacia flower and nutty oak. Juicy and savory in the mouth, more about soil than primary fruits. This dense, dry premier cru shows serious saline minerality and a chewy texture. Began a bit tannic but smoothed out nicely with some aeration.

White Burgundy Jadot 2012 Bienvenues Batard Montrachet

3 Bottle 300cl £695
  • Tasting note: This is also quite elegant with its equally spicy nose of honeysuckle, yellow and white orchard fruit and citrus elements. There is a lovely vibrancy to the concentrated and relatively large-scaled flavors that possess good power on the markedly dry and somewhat compact edgy finish. As with the Combettes my predicted range offers the benefit of the doubt that the finish will flesh out and the dryness will dissipate with time.

Red Burgundy Jadot 2012 Vosne 1er Cru Petits Monts

2 Case 6 75cl £360
  • Tasting note: Here the wood is more moderate if by no means invisible as it sets off the overtly spicy and fresh nose that mixes both red and dark berry fruit aromas that display subtle menthol nuances. There is good punch to the supple and fleshy medium weight flavors that evidence plenty of minerality, all wrapped in a solidly persistent and well-layered finale. This should reward 10 to 12 years of cellar time.

Red Burgundy Jadot 2017 Chambolle 1er Cru Les Fuees

4 Case 6 75cl £385
  • The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny Les Fuées 1er Cru has similar fruit intensity to the Les Baudes, although the oak is a little more vocal and therefore it does not quite have the same transparency. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity. This is quite strict and linear at the moment, showing good grip, although I discern more complexity and nuance on the Les Baudes.

Red Burgundy Jadot 2011 Clos Saint Jacques

2 Case 6 75cl £475
  • Tasting note: A very pretty and expressive nose features notes of relatively high-toned red berry fruit allied with ample amounts of earth and sauvage characters. The lighter weight (but by no means dilute) middle weight flavors exude an intense minerality while displaying excellent delineation and punch on the balanced and impressively long finish that evidences just a hint of acid tang. This doesn't have the sheer density of say the 2009, 2010 or 2012 vintages but I very much like the flavor authority. Note that this benefitted enormously from several hours of air, indeed the wine was notably better the next day. In sum, this won't knock you out out with power but it's one classy and ultra-pure wine.

Red Burgundy Jadot 2014 Morey 1er Cru Clos des Ormes

3 Case 6 75cl £185
  • Tasting note: There is enough wood spice present to remark upon though not so much as to mask the pretty and airy combination of various red berry aromas that are sprinkled with earth and floral nuances. I like the refinement of the round, supple and attractively textured middle weight flavors that are shaped by firm but well-integrated tannins on the solidly persistent and well-balanced finale. In a word, lovely.

Red Burgundy Jadot 2012 Morey 1er Cru Les Ormes

2 Case 6 75cl £195
  • Tasting note: Barnier indicated that this was not vinified by Jadot. There is a background note of menthol to the pretty and fresh red currant, earth and lightly spicy nose. There is a very supple and refined mouth feel to the satin-textured middle weight flavors that also possess a seductive mouth feel, all wrapped in a balanced finish. This should drink well young.

Red Burgundy Jadot 2012 Clos de la Roche -

2 Case 6 75cl £650
  • Tasting note: A pungently earthy nose also offers supporting aromas of gentle wood, spice and both red and dark fruit components. There is excellent richness and body to the large-scaled, mineral-inflected and openly powerful flavors that possess plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract before terminating in a striking long finish. This is a robust and very serious effort that possesses excellent cellaring potential and note well that it will need it as this is presently a bruiser. 93/100

Red Burgundy Jadot 2011 Clos Saint Denis

3 Case 6 75cl £690
  • Tasting note: A tight and while not completely closed, it would be fair to describe as the nose of subtly layered and spicy dark currant aromas as highly restrained. By contrast, there is fine vibrancy and freshness to the silky and focused middle weight flavors that are shaped by fine grained if distinctly firm tannins, all wrapped in a wonderfully intense, mouth coating, impressively persistent and austere finish. This may be a Clos St. Denis of finesse but it doesn't lack for power or seriousness.

Red Burgundy Jadot 2011 Mazis Chambertin

1 Case 12 75cl £1,025
  • Tasting note: There is a bit more wood on the fresh and open sauvage-infused nose of both red and dark currant, earth and game hints. There is excellent volume to the very smooth and polished mid-palate of the broad-shouldered flavors that possess plenty of dry extract before culminating in a mineral-inflected, powerful and long finish. This moderately firm effort is supported by tannins that are ripe if borderline rustic. A classic Mazis.

Red Burgundy Jadot 2009 Echezeaux

2 Case 6 75cl £760
  • Tasting note: In stark contrast to the fresh, bright and expressive nose that I saw from cask, this has shut down hard and while persistent swirling and plenty air coaxes subtle spice notes as well as plum and red cherry to emerge, it's clear that this is going to require some bottle age before it blossoms. Otherwise there is fine concentration to the medium-bodied flavors that coat the palate on the delicious, complex, balanced and lingering finish that evidences very firm tannins that impart a notable austerity. A "buy and forget" wine built for the long-term.

Red Burgundy Jadot 2016 Chambolle 1er Cru Baudes

2 Case 6 75cl £350
  • 91-93 Burghound

Tasting note: A toasty nose features notes of menthol, spiced tea, red currant and a hint of cherry liqueur. The velvety, rich and seductively textured medium weight flavors possess the usual muscularity of a fine Les Baudes, all wrapped in a robust and even more structured finale that is long, balanced and very serious. I would not advise buying this high-quality effort without the express intention to allow it at least 6 to 8 years first.

Red Burgundy Jadot 2009 Griotte Chambertin

4 Case 6 75cl £550
  • Tasting note: This is one of the few wines to display noticeable reduction and it's enough to knock down the nose though my score assumes that this will be corrected before it is bottled. There is good richness and vibrancy to the solidly well-concentrated flavors that possess plenty of tannin-buffering dry extract though the palate impression of the finish is still quite firm, all wrapped in a backend that delivers excellent persistence. This is a bit more rough and tumble than one typically sees from a classic Griotte though it does not display any overt rusticity

Red Burgundy Jadot 2015 Vosne 1er Cru Suchots

1 Case 3 150cl £450
  • Tasting note: In contrast to the prior two wines this is aromatically much more reserved though aggressive swirling eventually liberates Asian spice box, tea, plum and violet scents. There is fine richness to the very suave and highly seductive medium-bodied flavors thanks to the abundant amounts of dry extract that impart a sappy texture to the lingering and solidly complex finale. This is both classy and stylish and built to reward medium plus-term aging.

Red Burgundy Jadot 2017 Clos Saint Jacques

2 Case 6 75cl £675£650
  • The 2017 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos Saint-Jacques 1er Cru clearly has the finest bouquet of seven wines that I tasted from the appellation by Jadot. It is very precise and focused, showing superb edginess and impressive terroir expression. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin. This is quite linear in style, the fruit just a little muted toward the finish, but there is fine structure and detail on this more masculine Clos Saint-Jacques than anticipated.

Red Burgundy Jadot 2005 Griotte Chambertin

1 Case 6 75cl £675
  • Tasting note: A slightly less elegant but equally complex nose of almost exclusively red berry fruit aromas nuanced by touches of earth, underbrush and a subtle hint of game precede round, rich and generous flavors underpinned by suave tannins and a velvety and dusty finish. At present the tannins are on the chewy side and like the Latricières, this will require a certain amount of patience.

Red Burgundy Jadot 2014 Clos de Beze

owc

1 Case 6 75cl £850
  • Tasting note: Discernible wood highlights the elegant, pure and highly spiced aromas of perfumed red pinot fruit that displays additional depth in the form of Gevrey style earth, floral and Asian-style tea notes. There is a softly exotic character to the mineral-driven big-bodied flavors that retain a fine sense of detail and intensity on the hugely long, complex and palate staining finish. This is a beautiful if firmly structured wine that is likely going to need between 12 and 15 years of cellar time to reveal its full, and considerable, potential.

Red Burgundy de Montille 2011 Pommard 1er Cru Les Rugiens

oc

1 Case 3 150cl £320
  • Tasting note: This is also quite restrained with ultra-pure aromas of wet stone, floral hints, sandalwood and very fresh red berry fruit scents. There is a focused power to the robust yet refined medium-bodied flavors that possess plenty of supporting sap that helps to buffer the otherwise firm and well-integrated tannic spine on the explosively long, balanced and moderately austere finish. This beauty will also require ample patience.

Red Burgundy de Montille 2014 Vosne 1er Cru Les Malconsorts

1 Case 6 75cl £1,100
  • Tasting note: A discreet application of oak sets off the openly floral and spicy red currant, plum, sandalwood and Asian tea scents. There is impressive mid-palate density to the muscular and notably powerful medium weight plus flavors that seem to be constructed on a firm base of minerality, all wrapped in strikingly persistent finish that is austere but well-balanced thanks to the abundant level of sappy dry extract. Like the Clos du Roi, this is explicitly built-to-age and don't waste your precious bottles by drinking them too young.

There is a lovely mineral streak that runs the length of the refined medium-bodied flavors that possess excellent complexity, all wrapped in a balanced, lingering and lilting finish. I very much like the finesse and brilliant mouth feel as it's pure silk.

Also brilliant, the 2011 Hermitage Domaine des Tourettes Blanc (100% Marsanne aged in 60% new and 40% 2-year-old barrels) offers up knee weakening notes of orange blossom, honey, buttered tropical fruits and crushed stone-like minerality. This flows to a full-bodied, decadently rich and layered palate that has crystalline-like purity and a knockout finish. Count me impressed and this classic Hermitage Blanc will offer up over two decades of prime drinking.
